Introduction to my work. Collage & Drawing Processes:
To provide you a better context and understanding to the work I do in this website I want to give a sense of the collaging and drawing process I create.
I begin by appropriating photographic images deriving from varied sources, including personal photo, pop culture sources, magazines, newspapers, architectural magazines, advertisements, porn and social media content that we come across in our daily lives. I select images that catch my eye to an idea that would I like to examine, investigated and break down.
Examples or Sources:
Time Magazine; Los Angeles Times or various newspapers; Men's Health Magazines; OUT, The Advocate and other LGBT magazine sources; Novelty zines, Porn sources like Inches magazines; and online sources...
Imaged completed after all shapes have been measured in inches and calculated angel degrees revealed. This piece titled, Where is due process. 18"x24" 2025.
Collage and Drawing Tools:
Linear Dissection
Images are cut into smaller geometric shapes. I leave spaces in-between each shape while maintaining integrity of image or at times completely reconfigure it into a different composition.
I consider this process a linear dissection that provides both a visual and conceptual definition for my approach. I show the body in pieces - fractured, disjointed. Ready to be examined - measured.
Image cut into fragments and glue to paper. Ready to be investigated and measured.
